BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Elite Amateur Golf Series (EAGS), launching in summer 2022, has partnered with Golf Puerto Rico to provide playing opportunities for top Puerto Rican amateurs and juniors to compete in EAGS championships. Additionally, one of the top finishers in the 2022 Elite Amateur Cup point standings will be awarded a Golf Puerto Rico exemption into the PGA TOUR’s 2023 Puerto Rico Open.

“Golf Puerto Rico is excited and honored to partner up with the Elite Amateur Golf Series,” said Sidney Wolf, President of Golf Puerto Rico. “It is an excellent opportunity for our top, local amateur players to join some of the very best golfers in the world as they compete at the very top amateur and junior championships.”

“A spotlight is being so deservedly shined upon the incredible golf that Puerto Rico has to offer with the recent announcements of hosting the Latin American Amateur Championship in 2023 and the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball this spring,” stated Andy Priest, Executive Director of the Southern Golf Association and Chairman of the Elite Amateur Golf Series. “The Elite Amateur Golf Series is proud to support the work and efforts of Golf Puerto Rico by providing opportunities for aspiring Puerto Rican amateurs and juniors to compete in our historic championships.”

The eighth edition of the Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC) will be contested at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Puerto Rico, January 12-15, 2023. This marks the first time that Puerto Rico will host the LAAC.

The Grand Reserve Golf Club, home of the Puerto Rico Open since 2008, will also host the 7th U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship this spring from April 20-24. This will mark the first time a USGA championship has been held outside the United States mainland.

The EAGS is committed to elevating amateur golf that includes promoting other playing opportunities in leading state, regional and national events. Further, the EAGS is supporting a similar effort with elite women’s amateur events to provide similar opportunities for the best female amateurs in the world.

The Elite Amateur Golf Series events are the Sunnehanna Amateur, Northeast Amateur, North & South Amateur, Trans-Mississippi Amateur, Southern Amateur, Pacific Coast Amateur and the Western Amateur.
